International superstar Britney Spears joins the reality competition show “X-Factor” on the judging panel.
She’s baaaaack. And she’s brining the crazy, so grab a seatbelt. It’s gonna be an epic-ly bumpy ride, all caught on television. Man I love the 21st century.
Beginning to shoot auditions for its upcoming second season on Fox, Simon Cowell’s UK turned American talent show brainchild “X-Factor” filmed its first day in Austin Texas on May 24th, and things didn’t exactly go as smoothly as expected. Hmm.. Britney Spears… television show doesn’t go smoothly… see where this is going yet?!
Former Def-Jam Records Chairman Antonio “LA” Reid (responsible for signing the likes of Mariah Carey, Justin Bieber and Rihanna to name a few) and record producer/television executive extraordinaire Simon Cowell return as judges on the hit show, welcoming two new familiar faces to the judging panel. Most notably joining the panel for a cool 15 million dollars of batshit crazy is the Pop Princess turned Pop disaster turned Pop star once more Britney f’ing Spears. Disney alum and recording artist Demi Lavato, 19, also joins the panel.

Everything seemed to be going well. Spears and company all showed up for the first day of filming, photographed wearing a slim-fitting breast-accentuating pink dress, black heels, and a big smile. She looked great as usual. As the filming began, the judges were warmly welcomed by the eager crowd and the auditions began. An audio piece of one audition in particular was taped and published on Youtube in which Spears was heard telling one young “X-Factor” hopeful “You could be bigger than the next Justin Bieber”. Hmmm— So, this kid is the next-next Justin Bieber?…. Okay, so a little verbal flubber there. NBD According to audience members, Spears seemed right in her element (although understandably nervous) and, for the most part, a favourite of the crowd. What could possibly go wrong at this point? Below is the audio.
Then the next contestant came up. Sure to get a massive amount of attention when this episode is aired all around the world, a contestant butchered the track of “Hold It Against Me” off of Spears’ insanely successful seventh album, “Femme Fatal”. Typically a funny part of all talent competition shows, this unfortunate audition sent the Pop Princess over the edge and warranted Spears to walk off set and not return for the next four auditions, all according to audience members. Many of the spectators thought the pressure had gotten to Spears and caused her storm out in frustration. One source says she was upset by the negative reaction to some off her comments toward contestants by the crowd. However, another one source closely connected to the show says this was not as dramatic as depicted in the press and that Spears “simply needed a break”.
Here’s the kicker: Britney Spears was wanted by producers (including Cowell) so badly that they essentially gave away the whole farm with benefits and powers that are “unheard of” in the entertainment world. Anything Spears wants to do will come to fruition, including walking out and missing four full performances during auditioning tapes. One source told TMZ ”Simon is a smart and shrewd businessman who knew Britney could make his show and he was willing to give her just about anything to come on board — and he did.” Boy did he ever. Howard Stern on his “Americas Got Talent” and now Britney Spears on “X-Factor”!? Simon Cowell is cleaning up shop!
Spears is reportedly pocketing $15 million from her one year contract on “Factor”, whereas Stern will reportedly pocket $20 million judging on “Americas Got Talent”. Pays to be the “King of All Media”.
Honestly, she is about as big of a trainwreck of a person as she is successful, so why not milk her for all she’s worth? The whole point of Cowell abdicating “Pussycat Dolls” lead singer Nicole Schzeringer and Paula Adbul from their judge chairs was to breath new life into the show and, more importantly, replace them with people that are sure to get ratings. Demi Lavato is pretty much a nuisance in comparison to “the get” of Britney Spears. She’s been on her crazy train for years and Simon Cowell and company were smart enough to get on board and reap the benefits. And let’s be frank about it. Nobody is gonna tune into FOX every Tuesday and Wednesday night to hear what pearls of wisdom Britney Spears can give these Susan Boyle wannabes. We wanna see her in a short dress, dolled up and a little wacked out. Just a little. Just enough to entertain.
I was already a fan of the show and will be very eager to tune into the season 2 premiere of “X-Factor”. Unlike other tired singing shows (*cough* American Idol *cough*), LA Reid and Simon Cowell know how to make stars and knows what a potential star looks and sounds like. Talk about being qualified. They probably have billions of dollars in revenue from their artists between the two of them. If any show is gonna mold the next superstar, it’ll be “X-Factor”. So if you think you’re the next-next Justin Bieber, make sure you go out an audition!
